We're still getting settled in. It was hard to decide on either a dugout or a soddie. Mom originally wanted a soddie because it was bigger, but Dad decided on a dugout because it was insulated as well as being cheaper, easier, and faster to build. But, as I found out the hard way, dugouts have their disadvantages too. Take it from me, it is not fun to wake up in the morning with a bug on your face. Next came sodbusting with Dad's fancy new steel plow. We all had to help out. Our claim is relatively small, so it didn't take too long. Of course, it was still hard work. I have to go -- Dad is yelling that it's planting time. Of course, with our luck, the boll weevils will probably find us the second the corn is up.
